Now, i know that for a woman who is used to group classes, and bouncing around to hip-hop music, they can’t imagine throwing a 95lb barbell to the floor after doing 21 thrusters so that they can get to the pull-up bar without wasting any time…. but guess what, you will do it and love it if you give it a try. That’s right, this methodology caters to EVERYONE if they give it a chance. It is incredible how magnetic these workouts are if given a chance, even the least competetive person i know wants to beat their own best, at something, if not everything… they just don’t know it.
So why then are CrossFitters so fit? It is heavily rooted in record keeping; the daily commitment to tracking your workouts and comparing them to previous, and planning to whoop them in the future. So many workouts are mundane, boring, and routine. A step, body pump, zoomba, samba, or shazam class is in the end, simply another class. The same as the last class, and the same as the next. A little fun, interesting for a couple of years, then boring. Whereas, a measurable achievement is exciting for the simple fact that you can later try to beat it!
The next incredibly important piece is the programming. Coupling exercises that work to tire you, exhaust your muscles, then constrict your abdomen thus limiting your ability to breathe… this programming is so smart and scientific that the results far outweigh any other training regimen out there if the goal is pure fitness.
I have Crossfitted for 30+ months, at 36 I am fitter than i have ever been, and i played on two national championship hockey teams in college. I have been fit by normal standards, but this is a new level of fit… and I am overjoyed! I am partial… I am a partner in a CrossFit gym now, I run hours on end doing Adventure Racers and I have CrossFit to thank for my ability to be successful at these. How couldn’t i love it? Give it a chance and you will too!
